11.28.26 Houndstooth/Striped Scarf on a Rigid Heddle Loom with Casey

A rigid heddle loom is a portable loom that is quick and easy to set up. It's ideal for playing with color and pattern while creating plain weave fabric. If you're curious about weaving, this is a great place to start!

In this beginner class, you will learn how to warp (set up) and weave on a rigid heddle loom while exploring how colors interact within a houndstooth or a striping pattern. If you are brand new to weaving, I'd recommend stripes as it requires just one stick shuttle for the weaving process, allowing you to really get in the groove. If you have woven before, or are up for a slower pace as a newbie, the houndstooth pattern requires two stick shuttles. 

In the first class, you will set up your loom and begin weaving and then take your loom home to complete most of the weaving process.  In our follow up class, we'll cut our projects off our looms and finish off the edges with fringe twisting or overhand knots.  Or you may choose to finish your edges with a hand sewn or machine sewn hem.

Cost is $225 and includes 1 week of loom rental ($21). If you have your own rigid heddle loom, please bring a 10 dent reed along with your loom and accessories. Cost is then $204.

Materials cost will be $20+, depending on the yarn you choose. The sample shown is woven with Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool in the colors Melancholia and Salty Dog, which would require two skeins at $34 each. You are also welcome to bring your own yarn - sport to fingering weight in at least two colors and 200 yards each.

• a measuring tape
• scissors
• note-taking materials
• a lunch or snack for Saturday, September 28th as we'll take a 30 minute break mid-class.
• your loom + accessories if you are not renting one

About Loom Rentals:  

After class, you're welcome to continue renting a loom for $21/week.  If you'd like to purchase a new loom, you may credit up to $84 of your rental fees toward your purchase!  This way you can try a few different models before making a decision. 

Class Cancelation Policy:

If you cancel more than 30 days before the beginning of your class, we will offer you store credit in the amount of your class.  Cancelation with 30 days or less notice will result in the forfeiture of your entire course fee.  However, if we are able to fill your spot, we will offer store credit in the amount of the class.

If we cancel a class, you can choose to receive a full refund or store credit.
