9.12.26 Tablet Weaving Shoelaces with Rachel Abbott

Regular price $80.00 Sale

Saturday, September 12th - 2:00pm to 5:00pm

Join our beginner-friendly tablet (card) weaving class and learn how to create beautiful, durable shoelaces with geometric designs using classic threaded-in patterns. The class introduces the basics of tablet weaving, including the mechanics of twist, how to set up tablets, read patterns, warp the tablets, and start and finish bands.

Students will weave on a simple board loom—a simple setup that you can easily make at home—with a weighted warp to manage twist. Students may also choose to weave on their own inkle loom, if desired. No prior experience is required, and participants will be guided step by step through warping, weaving, and finishing their own custom pair of shoelaces. By the end of the class, you’ll understand the fundamentals of tablet weaving and be able to finish weaving your shoelaces at home.

Cost is $80 and includes tablet weaving cards, yarn for warp and weft, cardboard shuttle, handouts with patterns and instructions to make your own board loom.  A board loom will be provided for use in class.

Students should bring:

·      Scissors

·      Weights (12 weights, each 80-100 g or 3 oz, e.g. fishing sinkers, baggies of rice, small water bottles, nuts and bolts)

·      Belt shuttle or something with a “sharp” edge to beat the weft (e.g., plastic ruler, non-serrated butter knife, or credit card)

·      Set of colored pencils, including basic colors of the rainbow and black

·      Knitting stitch holder (optional)
