8.29.26 Solarfast Photograms with Rosalba Breazeale & Julia Lipner

Regular price $160.00 Sale

Saturday, August 29th - 1:00pm-5:00pm

SolarFast dye photograms are a cameraless technique that involves laying an object on fabric coated with light sensitive dyes before exposing it to UV light and washing with SolarFast Wash to create a wide range of colorful images. During this 4-hour workshop, you will learn how to design with plants from Julia Lipner of Triflorum Designs. Rosalba Breazeale will then demonstrate the printing process after which you will create several SolarFast prints utilizing recycled, plant-based fabrics, silk, and provided plant ephemera. No prior experience is necessary. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained!

Cost is $160 and includes a $40 materials fee, which includes Maine-based plant material courtesy of Triflorum Designs, scoured cotton, linen, Jute/Burlap, and silk ranging in size from 6in x 6in to 8in x 8in for printing on, Jacquard SolarFast solution in two colors (Avocado and Purple), gloves & use of brushes, clip frames, clamps, stencils and other misc. objects for making images. Handouts will include instructions and resources so that you can continue creating SolarFast photograms after the workshop.

If you would like to bring additional translucent 2D objects, thin fabric, lace, or glass works well. You may bring three-dimensional objects, but they will not render a sharp silhouette in the same way. Again, don’t bring anything you don’t want to get stained. If foraging, please use respectful foraging techniques and only collect plants you are familiar with.
