Shibori is a Japanese term meaning shaped resist. Resists are created when you block off certain areas of fabric so that when dye is applied, those areas remain undyed. In this fun afternoon we will explore several traditional and non traditional methods of creating resists and patterns on our fabrics, such as folding and clamping, stitching, pole wrapping and more. We will then create an indigo vat and dye our fabrics.
Materials include a set of cotton napkins and either a cotton project bag or a silk scarf. Also, there is always more dye created than we need in class, so please feel free to bring up to a pound or so of personal items to add to the dye pot. These can be yarn, fiber, clothing, fabric....I hate to throw away indigo!! Please wear clothing that can get dirty and bring a pair of long dishwashing gloves. All other materials provided.
Cost is $75 plus a $25 materials fee to be paid directly to Jackie.
