1.3.26 Contemporary Stranded Colorwork with Mary Jane Mucklestone

Saturday, January 3rd - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Knit bold, contemporary pieces using the principles of traditional Fair Isle knitting. Mary Jane will share her love of stranded knitting by embracing traditional techniques that simplify the work while modernizing the look with graphic geometric shapes and a contemporary take on color.

We will create a sampler using Mary Jane's Flying Geese Cowl as a template, experimenting with color and shapes. Mary Jane will help guide your color choices and offer tips on stranded knitting techniques. MJ includes an extra page of pattern motifs.

Class fee includes a copy of the pattern, which can be sent to your Ravelry library or emailed to you for future use.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Technique requirements: Some experience working stranded colorwork in the round; chart reading.

Please bring or plan to purchase: 5 colors of worsted-weight yarn between 30-72yds (27.5-66m) each. Include both light and dark colors. If you prefer to make the Flying Geese cowl as is, the yarn and amounts are:

Harrisville Highland, 100% wool 200yd/182m, 100g/3.5oz;
Azure 72yd/66m, (pattern color), Charcoal 60yd/55m, Toffee 30yd/27.5m, Suede 30yd/
27.5m, Silver Mist 60yd/55m.

We do carry Harrisville Highland in full skeins for $17 each.  If you plan on shopping for yarns for class, please come in before so you'll have time to wind your skeins into balls.  You are welcome to bring any worsted stash yarns as well.

Needles: US 8 & US 9 circular needle to fit 24" circumference.

Optional Homework: On larger needle, with any color you like (or Charcoal if following Flying Geese pattern), cast on 120 sts, and work k1,p1 rib for 1 inch. Doing homework will allow for more time to work on colorwork... and you won't have to do any counting in class.

Class Cancelation Policy:

If you cancel more than 30 days before the beginning of your class, we will offer you store credit in the amount of your class.  Cancelation with less than 30 days notice will result in the forfeiture of your entire course fee.  However, if we are able to fill your spot, we will offer store credit in the amount of the class. 

If we cancel a class, you can choose to receive a full refund or store credit.
