9.9.17 Weaving A Weft-Faced Rug with Ray Cooper
Saturdays, September 9th, 16th, & 30th
Learn to weave on a 4-Harness floor loom while creating a weft-faced rug. Weft-faced means that the weft yarn is the only yarn visible in the woven piece. The warp threads are spaced far enough apart that the weft yarns pack in around the warp, covering it up. This creates a dense fabric that will wear well. You will design and weave your very own rug, and perhaps try out Krokbragd, a Norwegian weaving technique.
This class will meet for 3 sessions. You will need to come in and work on your loom outside of class time, too. Please mark your calendar for the following dates and times:
Saturday, September 9th from 1:00pm-5:00pm
Saturday, September 16th from 1:00pm-3:30pm
Saturday, September 30th from 1:00pm-3:30pm
Cost is $254.54 and includes 3 weeks of loom rental ($45) and warp yarn ($28). Weft yarn will be available for purchase or you may bring your own. Worsted and/or Aran weight wool yarn will work well for this project. You will need between 800-1200 yards.
